There's a waft of floral notes on the end, but it is not heavy. Palate: The juniper is there, again, this time accompanied by sweet citrusy notes, a tiny bit of floral in the form of hibiscus, ending in a little bit of a vegetal flavor.
Cocktail of the Week – Bijou
The Bijou is a classic cocktail that first appeared in Harry Johnson’s Bartender’s Manual in 1900. This fragrant drink hits the spot year-round with the herbal yet spicy character being perfect for a post-dinner, stomach settler. The original recipe calls for equal parts of gin, sweet vermouth and Chartreuse, but revised versions, such as this one from bartender Dale DeGroff makes a more balanced version with slightly different proportions.
Its glamorous name comes from the French word for “jewel” – with the ingredients each representing a precious stone: gin (diamond), sweet vermouth (ruby) and Green Chartreuse (emerald).
1.5 oz Bully Boy Estate Gin
.75 oz Green Chartreuse
.75 oz Sweet Vermouth
2 dashes Orange Bitters
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist.
