Would anyone like to try a cider regularly enjoyed by Queen Elizabeth II? Benoit Lesuffleur’s La Folletière is a beautiful Norman cider best enjoyed with roast duck (which is what the Queen served it with), Roquefort, or even some carnitas tacos.
Benoit uses a combination of acidic, bittersweet, and bitter apples to create a blend that is fresh and, honestly, terribly addictive. The apples he uses are hand-harvested and fermented and made using méthode ancestrale. Additionally, La Folletière ages for 3 years minimum on its fine lees in bottle. This is how it develops such incredible depth of flavor.
Benoit brings his apples to their full potential. With minimal sweetness and gentle tannic structure, it’s certainly a wine drinker’s cider. Think perfectly ripe Macoun or Cortland apples with notes of lemon peel, clove and nutmeg. It’s an ideal bottle for fall.
