Van Oousten, Batavia Arrack

You might be wondering "what kind of spirit is this?". You wouldn't be wrong to be unfamiliar with this, its actually a rum- like spirit originally from Indonesia. Batavia Arrack is a distillate primarilly made from sugar cane and fermented red rice. It has a unique funk similar to shochu or sake but still has semi tropical fruit flavors like rum. A great substitution in cocktails that call for youthful rums! 

 

Batavia Arrak Daiquiri 

 

2 oz Batavia Arrack

3/4 oz Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice

1/2 oz Simple Syrup

 

Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a thin slice of lime and tell Mariana you made this, it's her favorite cocktail!
